Captain Cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the third player to amass 5000 runs as captain for India in ODIs - the other two being Mohammad Azharuddin (5239) and Sourav Ganguly (5082). He is the quickest to this feat, having taken 127 innings as against 136 by Ganguly and 151 by Azharuddin.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's blistering unbeaten 139 went in vain as Australia came from behind to pull off a sensational four-wicket victory over India in the third cricket one-dayer to take a 2-1 lead in the seven-match series here on Saturday. During his knock, the wicket keeper-batsman smashed 12 fours and five sixes.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has recorded his sixth century as captain in ODIs - his ninth in ODIs and the second against Australia.

Dhoni's unbeaten knock of 139 is the third highest by number six batsman - the two highest innings being 175 not out by Kapil Dev vs Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells on June 18, 1983 and 143 not out by Andrew Symonds for Australia vs Pakistan at Johannesburg on February 11, 2003.

Ajit Agarkar announces retirement from all forms of cricket

Ajit Agarkar, the former India seamer, has announced his retirement from all competitive cricket on 16th October 2013.

Agarkar had led Mumbai, for whom he played all his Ranji Trophy cricket, to the domestic first-class title in the 2012-13 season. He played 110 first-class games in all, taking 299 wickets at 30.69, as well as 270 List A games and 62 T20s in a career that began in 1996-97.

Ajit Agarkar made his Test and ODI debuts in 1998 and T20I debut in 2006. With 288 wickets, he is the third highest wicket-taker for India in ODIs after Javagal Srinath(315) and Anil Kumble(337).

Early in his career, Agarkar broke Dennis Lillee's world record for the fastest 50 wickets in ODIs, achieving the feat from only 23 matches. He held the record from 1998 until 2009, when Ajantha Mendis achieved the feat from just 19 matches.

Agarkar holds the Indian record of scoring the fastest 50 in ODI - he scored 50 of 21 balls. Agarkar also holds another ODI record, which is the quickest in terms of least number of matches played to take 200 wickets and complete 1000 runs. Agarkar achieved this feat in 133 matches breaking the previous record held by South African Shaun Pollock, who accomplished this feat in his 138th match.

He scored an unbeaten Test century at Lord's in 2002, batting at number eight.

Conversely, Agarkar attained the feat of five consecutive innings resulting in ducks(four of them of first ball) against Australia, an unfortunate honour.

Agarkar also played for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL and led Mumbai to the 2013 Ranji Trophy title in domestic cricket.

India vs Australia 2013: India beat Australia by 9 wickets to register 2nd successful run chase in ODIs

India chase down 359 to enter record books! This is the second highest successful run chase in ODIs.

Team India notched up the mammoth total of 359 runs at the loss of just one wicket and with 39 balls to spare against Australia.

Credit to all the batsmen, with a special mention for Rohit Sharma who finished unbeaten on 141 off just 123 deliveries. Virat Kohli went berserk with his 52-ball century, the fastest by an Indian in ODIs. It also happens to be his 16th ODI for Kohli. India have scaled down what looked like an impossible mountain. A lot of credit is also due to Shikhar Dhawan who scored 95. Dhawan was dismissed 5 runs short of his ton, ending a 172-run 1st wicket stand.

Rohih hits his 3rd hundred, and this is the 1st against Australia, 1st at home as well. While Kohli got hits ton in just 52 balls, and was to go on to break Sehwag's record for the fastest ton by an Indian batsman as India completed a stunning chase.

India have leveled the ODI series 1-1 in thumping style. Hard luck for Bailey and Co. who were completely blown away in the second half of the game. The next match scheduled to be held at Mohali.

Mumbai Indians win Champions League 2013

Mumbai Indians created history by becoming the first team to win the Champions League twice. In a high-scoring final here on 7th October 2013 Sunday night, MI defeated Rajasthan Royals by 33 runs.

The Champions League Twenty20 2013 will end with the same teams on the field as when the first match was played on 21st September - Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians. Just over two weeks on, it's Rahul Dravid versus Sachin Tendulkar again in what is mostly likely to be the last time the two greats will be seen together on the field, pitted against each other.

But emotions aside, it's a match that promises to be engrossing - a clash of styles, a clash of team character.

It was a perfect farewell for batting great Sachin Tendulkar, playing in his last Twenty20 match, as the Mumbai Indians won the Champions League Twenty20 title defeating the Rajasthan Royals in the final at the Ferozeshah Kotla

The Mumbai Indians team made it a double by having also won the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year, only the second team after Chennai Super Kings (2010) having done so. The Indians also became the first team to clinch two CLT20 titles, the first one coming in 2011.

After the win, Tendulkar was seen being carried to the dugout by his team, waving the Mumbai Indians flag.

He was also given the guard of honour twice during the match. Once when he got out and walked back to the pavillion and when the team came out to field.
