World Cup 2019: Shikhar Dhawan ruled out of World Cup

Shikar Dhawan injury during match against Australia

Indian batsman Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the ongoing World Cup and replaced by young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant after failing to make enough recovery in a fresh assessment of his thumb fracture.

It is to be noted that Dhawan wasn’t a part of the game against Pakistan as the management already said that he is battling with an injury. However, sources reported that he is expected to recover by 4 weeks. Things aren’t as per plan as he is now ruled out as it consumes a lot of time to recover

Rishabh Pant has now been named as the replacement for injured Dhawan. Pant flew to the United Kingdom a few days ago, but he was kept as a backup for Dhawan. As Dhawan seen ruled out now, the team management has now seeks permission to the BCCI for his inclusion. A formal letter from the BCCI is expected to be sent to the ICC regarding this replacement.

Pant had scored impressive hundreds during the Test tours of England and Australia. He also enjoyed a good run in the IPL last month.

India will play their fifth game against Afghanistan on Saturday. Having still 5 matches on the cards, India will look to capitalize on the wins they have already now to make further progress in the tournament.
