Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul gave India the perfect foundation in their World Cup 2019 match against Bangladesh at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The Indian openers broke a 4-year-old record set by Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan for the highest opening partnership for India in a World Cup match.
The duo also surpassed Jason Roy-Jonny Bairstow's 160-run opening stand to score the highest opening partnership at the ongoing World Cup.
Rohit Sharma and Shikhar had stitched a 174-run stand for the opening wicket in the 2015 World Cup match vs Ireland in Hamilton. India chased down 260 to win the match by 8 wickets.
This is also only the 4th time a 150-run stand has been stitched by India openers in World Cups. Ajay Jadeja and Sachin Tendulkar became the first pair in the 1996 World Cup while Sachin Tendulkar-Virender Sehwag did so in the 2003 World Cup and Rohit Sharma-Shikhar Dhawan achieved this feat in 2015 World Cup match.
Rohit became only the 2nd batsman after Sri Lankan batting legend Kumar Sangakkara to score 4 hundred in a single edition of the World Cup.
