Dhoni's World Cup winning bat fetches Rs 72 lakh at auction


Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni made the India world champion in cricket hitting the six by the bat will be auctioned on Monday 17, June, 2011. Dhoni scored unbeaten 91 runs by this bat against Sri Lanka in the final match of Cricket World Cup 2011.

Auction will be carried on Hilton Park Lane in London on Monday night. Bid also be put on the ball used in the world cup final. Ball has a Muttiah Murlitharan’s signature. Painting of Sachin Tendulkar made by Sacha Jafri will also be auctioned.

The entire Indian team was present to watch Dhoni's prized bat go under the hammer as the skipper hosted a lavish dinner at Hilton Park Lane hotel. Besides his team-mates, bigwigs like Brian Lara, Courtney Walsh and David Boon were also present on the occasion. Dhoni, along with wife Sakshi and Poorna Patel, came in a little earlier to make sure everything was in place.

Auction’s money will go to the foundation of Dhoni’s wife Sakshi's charitable organisation, "Sakshi Foundation". Fund will be used to build a school in India where vocational education will be given to the helpless children.
