India-Pakistan Test series likely in 2015

The Pakistan Cricket Board is expecting to play at least six home and away Test series against India in the next eight-year FTP cycle between 2015 and 2023 which will also include an "off-shore" home series in the United Arab Emirates.

The Pakistan Cricket Board approved to refurbish the test format between India and Pakistan, but they put the stipulation that they will be the part of the bilateral series in opposing to all the members of the International Cricket Council.

By this agreement, PCB generates the amount of 30 billion, which is near about the 310 million U.S dollars over the next eight years if the ICC approves the agreement. Moreover, if this proposal is rejected, it might be seems that the PCB will be bankrupt in two years and this was claimed by the Sethi in the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore in a press conference.

Sethi said that the decision is made by focusing on the position of the board after sagacity seclusion. To avoid this, the PCB must stay on schedule and they must play a home series in opposing to the Indians as it is the board which generates the most money in all over the boards and of the series in opposing to the India, Pakistan also generates lots of money.

As the infrastructure of the cricket based on the money so it is the requirement of the time and the PCB. The PCB must engage in the bilateral series and they must play the cricket and not to sit like a viewer. Sethi also highlights this point that the world governing board must ask the PCB when they nominate the member from the PCB for the ceremonial role in the ICC President of the next year.

When the decision of the big three was taken by the ICC, then the four boards that are BCCI, PCB, CSA and SLC refused to approve this and they start to deny it. But the proposal has been revised and then it was approved by the full 8 members of the International Cricket Council on February 8, 2014, but the two boards till refuse to accept it and they denied from voting in that very meeting and the Sri Lanka Cricket Board extend the support to the refurbish for 10 days later.

After this no one discusses about the bilateral series with Pakistan and everyone focuses the bilateral series in opposing to the other members except the Pakistan. Since the last July 2013, Pakistan makes no deal in long term broadcasting as this is the major source for the Pakistan Cricket Board. By this the Pakistan faces the discrepancy of nearly about 500 million Pakistani rupees.

But by the present proposal, the stability of the board seems to be sustained and by the long-term deal the amount of 30 billion U.S dollars will be assured for the next eight year cycle. By the broadcasting rights the PCB will get the share of the ICC tournament is off 1.3 percent and now they have the 0.3 means the share percentage will increase by the 1.00 percent and it is the good news for Pakistan cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar becomes first Indian to feature on Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack cover

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who quit international cricket in November 2013, adorns the cover of the 151st edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack. The 40-year-old cricketer is the first Indian to feature on the cover of the Almanack. He was earlier chosen to feature on the cover of the second edition of the Wisden India Almanack.

The yellow page shows Tendulkar walking out of the Wankhede stadium after playing his last innings against the West Indies in November last year. The photograph captured Tendulkar acknowledging the crowd with his bat raised.

“Sachin simply picks himself,” said Lawrence Booth, the Wisden editor. “His status and influence on the game are beyond question. Wisden is delighted to add its own tribute to an exceptional career in this year’s Almanack.”

The 2014 edition of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack will be published in London.

The Wisden said: “Tendulkar played Test matches in front of the most demanding fans in the world for 24 years.”

T20 World Cup 2014: Virat Kohli leads India in final

Virat Kohli hit a sparkling fifty and got a partnership of 56 with Yuvraj Singh to give India a six-wicket win against South Africa in the second semi-final of the World T20 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

Openers Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane provided an explosive start, but left early. The two showed their intent early on and took on the Proteas bowlers. Their 39-run partnership came off 23 balls.

Rohit raced to his 24 in 13 balls with four fours and a six. He fell finally when he tried to hit Beuran Hendricks down the ground, but it went straight up.

Ajinkya Rahane (32) kept the momentum going, but the run rate came down a bit. Rahane fell in the tenth over to Wayne Parnell. He tried to give the charge, swung at the bouncer, got a top edge and was caught at deep midwicket.

At this point, Kohli (72*) and Yuvraj (18) came together. They played sensible cricket, hitting the occasional big shots and keeping the strike rotating. The required run rate slowly inched up.

Yuvraj left in the 16th over when he tried to hit Imran Tahir down the ground. He couldn't get the elevation and was caught out at long-off. The required run rate at that point was 10 per over.

The next over changed all that. Suresh Raina (21) got stuck into Wane Parnell and took him for 17 in an over. The match turned on its head.

Raina tried to clear mid-off in the next over and got caught out instead. But he had done his job. The match was in India's kitty.

MS Dhoni came out to finish things off. With two runs remaining, Virat took a single, tying the scores. Ever the gentleman, Dhoni refused to take a run, allowing Virat to finish things off, which he did with a boundary.

In the earlier innings, South Africa captain Faf du Plesis hit a quick fifty and stitched up a 71-run partnership with JP Duminy to steer South Africa to 172 for four in 20 overs.

Now India meet on Sunday's final against Sri Lanka.

Brief Scores:
  • South Africa: 172/4 in 20 overs (Faf du Plessis 58, JP Duminy not out 45; R Ashwin 3/22).
  • India: 176 for 4 in 19.1 overs (Virat Kohli 72 not out, Ajinkya Rahane 32; Beuran Hendricks 2/31).

Sri Lanka have reached the final of the World Twenty20 with a 27-run win over Darren Sammy's West Indies via Duckworth Lewis method at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur. Sri Lanka have secured their berth in the ICC World T20 final as they await their opposition from the second semi-final between India vs South Africa.

Batting first in the first semi-final, Sri Lanka scored an impressive 160 for six riding on important contributions from Angelo Mathews (40) and Lahiru Thirimanne (45).

In reply, West Indies were 80 for four in 13.5 overs when a storm followed by heavy downpour ruled out any chances of a game. The D/L par score at that point of time was 107 and the Caribbeans were well short of the target.

Umpires Richard Kettleborough and Rod Tucker had to wait as per rules before Sri Lanka were adjudged winners.

The 2007 champions India enter the semis as Group 2 leaders with 8 points having won all their four matches, beating Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh and Australia.

T20 World cup 2014: Yuvraj and Ashwin shine as India thrash Australia

India continued their dream run in the ICC World T20 as they pounded a listless Australia by a whopping 73-run margin to emerge group 2 champions with an all-win record.

Yuvraj (60) and Ashwin (4/11) laid the foundation for India's comfortable win as they bundled out Australia for 86 after making 159/7.

Australia won the toss and elected to field first. Put into bat, India scored 159 for seven with Yuvraj Singh showing glimpses of his destructive self with an innings of 60. On a slow track, Yuvraj initially struggled before blasting four sixes and five boundaries in a 43-ball knock.

Ravichandran Ashwin has been named the Man of the Match.

Australia were slogging absolutely each and everything and shockingly collapsed for a mere 86, their second lowest ever total in T20Is. They have nothing substantial to take back home and will now look to win their dead-rubber match against Bangladesh.

India are going through to the semifinals, playing 4, winning 4 and remain the only team to do so far.

Australia, meanwhile, lost both the Group 2 games they have played so far against Pakistan and West Indies, which put them out of the race for the semi-finals.

Unbeaten India qualify into WT20 semi-finals

India have qualified for the World Twenty20 semi-finals after defeating hosts Bangladesh by eight wickets with nine balls remaining in Dhaka.

India, who won the toss and elected to field, started strongly by dismissing Tamim Iqbal (6), Shamsur Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan (1) inside the first five overs. Bangladesh had been restricted to 138-7 in their 20 overs, leg-spinner Amit Mishra (3-26) again impressing. Anamul Haque (44) and Mahmudullah (33) offered the only real resistance.

Virat Kohli (57) and Rohit Sharma (56) shared in a second-wicket partnership of 100 to ensure a third successive Group Two win with nine balls to spare.

India never qualified for the semis in the last three editions of the tournament after winning it in 2007.

Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar will be in the visitors gallery to watch the Bahrain Grand Prix scheduled to be held next month April.

Bahrain's first-ever Formula One night race will be held at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir from April 4 to 6. Tendulkar, who retired from all forms of cricket last year, will travel to Manama with his family at the invitation of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, reported Gulf Daily News.

Bahraini businessman Mohammed Dadabhai, who is close to Tendulkar, confirmed that the batting legend will be present to watch the first Formula 1 night race in Bahrain. "This is great news that will bring both Bahrain and India closer as the cricketing idol has accepted the invitation to visit Bahrain to attend this year's Formula One race," Dadabhai was quoted as saying Sunday.

"There is no doubt that Sachin Tendulkar, who is visiting with his family, will be one of the main attractions of this major event and we are happy that the most popular cricketer in the world is visiting Bahrain," he added.

Sachin Tendulkar unveils digital mosaic of himself

Japanese electronics major Toshiba paid tribute to Sachin Tendulkar by creating the world’s largest digital photo mosaic of the retired player, considered to be the largest of any cricketer.

Tendulkar himself unveiled the mosaic at a function. The company had started the campaign on social media earlier this year and the mosaic of Sachin Tendulkar adorned with the images of more than 17,000 fans was displayed on an 84 inch Toshiba 4k Ultra HD TV.

The photo mosaic is adapted from a painting by Viveek Sharma and the painting — titled eye of the tiger — draws a parallel between the tiger and the legendary cricketer for his strength, bravery and precision.
It is also a metaphorical reference depicting Tendulkar’s fiery attitude when it comes to cricket, according to Toshiba.

Sachin Tendulkar launches special silver coins in Mumbai

Legend cricketer Sachin Tendulkar launched special edition silver coins, with his face, name and signature embossed on them in Mumbai.

Valuemart Gold & Jewels and Diamond India will launch 15,921 coins, each coin signifying the number of runs scored by batting maestro scored in Tests during his glittering 24-year international career between 1989 and 2013.

The special edition coins would also have the batting icon’s name at the top, 200th Test match-2013 written below, where his face is engraved, and “ST” logo, as per the details in the invite issued for the launch function.

The coins, minted in 200gm silver, have been crafted by Switzerland-based precious metal refiner Valcambi SA.

Silver coins named after the legend are already available on the market. They weigh 20gm and 10gm, carry his photo and signature, but are without the figure of 200, signifying the number of Tests he had played before retiring in November last year.

Sachin Tendulkar with this honour would have been overwhelmed as he recently won the cricketer of the generation title by the Cricinfo.

Tendulkar during news conference after the release of the coins, said that he was fond of collecting coins in his childhood.

Sri Lanka clinch Asia Cup 2014

Sri Lanka claimed a brutally efficient five-wicket victory over efending champions Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2014 final in Dhaka on Saturday.

Going into the final with a perfect record throughout the competition, a five-wicket haul from Lasith Malinga and opener Lahiru Thirimanne's fluent century guided Sri Lanka to glory.

Sri Lanka were clinical as they restricted Pakistan to a modest 260-5 and then overhauled the target with 22 balls to spare to lift their fifth Asia Cup title. The last time they won the regional championship was in 2008.

Pakistan won the toss and Misbah-ul-Haq opted to bat first. Malinga pegged Pakistan back as he demolished the rival top order with his fierce pace and it was Fawad Alam's magnificent unbeaten 114 that guided to a respectable score.

Riding on the century of Thirimanne, Sri Lanka chased the total of 261 runs with an ease. Mahela, who was out of form, too contributed well with the bat and stitched a crucial partnership of 156 runs for the third wicket with Thirimanne to chase the target quite comfortably.

They have been the most consistent team throughout the tournament and their all-round quality shined through in this final.

Tendulkar more difficult to bowl to than Lara: Brett Lee

Former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee, who was in Mumbai on Tuesday, was drawn into the debate on Tendulkar and Lara's greatness.

Last week, South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis faced the same question and rated Lara as a better batsman than Tendulkar.

Asked to compare the two great batsmen, Lee said, "I have to say Sachin, because he has that aura when he comes out to bat."

"I have waged many a battle against him and was lucky enough to get him out more number of times than anyone else in the world. But I was also on the receiving end of many hundreds -- like the hundred (116) he got at Melbourne in 1999 and the many hundreds he has scored against us all around the world. When you play against Sachin you somehow (have to) find a way to give that little bit extra," said Lee.

"Interestingly Brett Lee is one of those fast bowlers who's had fair degree of success against India's legendary batsmen. Yet he picks Sachin. "There was some aura about him. I remember seeing him when I played my first test at MCG and I looked at him and was pinching myself if this was real. He was tiny and had a thick bat. I told to myself this is what dreams are made of. Its strange when you are playing against a man you have grown up seeing as a hero. I wanted my autograph book and get autograph and not bowl to him," Lee recalls.

"It's a huge opportunity and I had a lot of opportunities to play against him," added Lee.

Lee's assessment of Tendulkar was at variance with that of Kallis, who two days ago, was quoted as saying that Lara was the best batsman he has ever played against.

Kallis, one of the greatest all-rounders to have graced the game, however, described Tendulkar's achievements as incredible.

Sachin Tendulkar did not want to bat at number 4: Sourav Ganguly

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly revealed that Sachin Tendulkar was not too happy when he was asked to bat at number four in One-day internationals back in 2002-03.

“You say, please, do it for a short while; of course you’ll be back up, let’s see how long it goes. Once he settled down to the idea and saw it work, it was fine. When things went a bit wobbly at the 2003 World Cup, he was back up straight away,” Ganguly said.

In an article featured in ESPNcricinfo’s new anthology ‘Sachin Tendulkar: The Man Cricket Loved Back‘, Ganguly added that Sachin Tendulkar’s record as Indian captain is better than what people make it out to be.

“He led on some very tough tours – South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka, Australia – and it must be said he didn’t lose eight in a row. This when he didn’t have a very good team around him. The older players were fading and the newcomers were too raw.”

“When it came to being Sachin’s captain, it was about giving him due respect: treating him like a team-mate but also as the special player he was. He was central to the side doing well. He had to feel relaxed and comfortable,” Ganguly added.

While Sachin scored 2,059 runs from 61 innings with an average of 38.85 at number four in ODIs. He made 4 centuries and 8 half-centuries.

Other legendary cricketers like Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman also paid tributes to Tendulkar in the book.

Sachin Tendulkar begins work on his autobiography

Soon cricket fans around the world will come to know the story of Sachin Tendulkar from the man himself as the batting icon planning to write his biography, now he spends all his time with childrens.

"The work on it has started. If I give out the details of it, then who will read it? When the time is appropriate, I will let you know [more about it]," Tendulkar said during a Reynolds event in Chennai.

Tendulkar said writing is not something new to him as he was used to writing letters to parents and Anjali from tours before the cell-phone era. "When I started playing cricket, there were no mobile phones. So writing letters to my parents and later on to my wife Anjali became one of the ways to stay connected with near and dear ones," the Bharat Ratna awardee said.

Tendulkar's father was known name among Marathi writers and suggested that he wants his children to develop passion for writing. "Anjali and me would allow both Sara and Arjun to scribble on the walls when they were young."

"Writing, much like batting, needs ample practice, the right technique and execution," the batting maestro signed off.

South Africa wins maiden ICC Under19 Cricket World Cup 2014

South Africa won its maiden ICC U19 Cricket World Cup title when it defeated two-time former champion Pakistan by six wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.

Fast bowler Corbin Bosch saved his best performance in the tournament for the title match when he claimed four for 15, and wicketkeeper Clyde Fortuin collected six catches behind the wickets as Pakistan was bundled out for 131 in 44.3 overs after electing to bat first.

South Africa captain Aiden Markram then held one end together as he scored an unbeaten 66 to guide his team home in 42.1 overs. Markram, who faced 125 balls and hit six fours, was well assisted by Greg Oldfield, who contributed 40 in a 71-runs partnership for the third wicket to help the side recover after South Africa was reduced to 28 for two.

Bosch was named the player of the match for his brilliant figures in the final.

Markram finished as the highest scorer for South Africans (3rd highest overall) in the tournament with 370 runs to his name, including two centuries and one half-century in the final. The Proteas captain was also named the player of the tournament.

The next ICC U19 Cricket World Cup will be staged in Bangladesh in 2016 and details will be announced in due course.

Brief Scores:

Asia Cup: Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane anchor India to six-wicket win over Bangladesh

India began their Asia Cup campaign with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh.

A 213-run stand between Virat Kohli (136) and Ajinkya Rahane (73) helped India beat Bangladesh by six wickets.

The 19th century (136 off 122 balls) of India's stand-in skipper Virat Kohli has equalling Brian Lara with his 19th One Day International century, against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup on Wednesday. Now, Kohli is joint seventh on highest century-makers in ODIs. The list is headed by Sachin Tendulkar with 49.

Earlier, Kohli won the toss and sent Bangladesh in to bat. The home team were without injured opener Tamim Iqbal and premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim had hit a sparkling ton to help the hosts post a challenging 279 for seven.

While Rahim's excellent knock went in vain, Kohli's effort resulted in victory of his team.

India will take on Sri Lanka on Friday.

Sachin wanted to pack me off from West indies tour: Ganguly

Sachin Tendulkar almost sent an errant Sourav Ganguly home midway from the Caribbean tour of 1997 for not doing what he had been told to to do by the now retired legendary batsman. After the humiliating defeat in the 3rd Test match against West Indies, Ganguly was told to go for a morning run, which he didn’t; Ganguly reveals in his new book.

The incident happened immediately after the third Test in Barbados which India lost narrowly by 38 runs. Set to chase 120 on a wearing track with uneven bounce, the visitors collapsed for a paltry 81. The Windies trio of Ian Bishop, Curtley Ambrose and Franklyn Rose ripped through the Indian batting line-up.

Ganguly begins the anecdote with an admission: "My fault, actually." Then he goes on write, "Sachin was utterly dejected and very angry with us. To get him to think positive and stop beating himself and us up so much, I asked him to tell me what to do. "Go for a run tomorrow morning," he said.

“It’s a story to tell now, but when he found out that I had missed the morning run the next day, his face was almost purple with anger. He told me, in language that cannot be printed, that he was going to send me home and I should sort myself out because my career could be ending. The thought of being sent home was enough to light a fire under my shoes. I wouldn’t have broken any records, never have, never will, but from the next morning, I was up and running.”

This comes from the new book Sachin Tendulkar: The man cricket loved back, which is Ganguly’s recollection of his former opening partner. 41 reminiscences and essays on the greatest star to ever grace the game complete the anthology, which has been put together by an online website.

As a captain, Tendulkar was seen as a failure. Under his captaincy, India won four Tests and lost nine. But Ganguly provides a justification of sorts for the poor record even as he takes an indirect dig at the current skipper MS Dhoni.

"Sachin was a better captain than his results show and better than people make him out to be. He led on some very tough tours - South Africa, West Indies, Sri Lanka and Australia - and it must be said he didn't lose eight in a row. This when he didn't have a very good team around him. The older players were fading and the newcomers were too raw," he explains.

Every article in the book lauds the Mumbai batting maestro. But when high praise comes from Allan Donald, who took the wicket of Tendulkar 10 times in the five Tests and five ODIs where both figured, it perhaps means a little more.

In the article headlined, The man who made you plan for weeks, the South Africa speedster writes, "You didn't work Tendulkar out in days. You had to plan for him weeks in advance. Otherwise, he could frustrate bowlers. When Hansie Cronje was the captain, our thinking was that the first 20 balls we had to make Tendulkar play every single one, even if we leaked runs. We also decided that we were not going to test him with the short ball early on: it was an easy way for him to get himself into his innings. We wanted to make him sweat as much as we could.

He goes on to say, "When a great batsman is in form, that is when you get really challenged as a fast bowler. Tendulkar turned that bowler's ego to his advantage. We saw it dozens of times, when he counterpunched really well. He had that ability, when the bowler was at his best and in fantastic rhythm and bowling at his optimum pace, to come in and change the state of the game, to hit you off your line, get you out of the attack. He was careful, but if you offered him half a chance he would make you pay. With Tendulkar you were always working with fine, fine margins."

BCCI paid Windies Board $250,000 for Tendulkar’s farewell series

Sachin Tendulkar’s hugely followed farewell Test series in October-November came at a price to the BCCI — $250,000 (approximately Rs 1.5 crore) to be precise.

The BCCI has paid this amount to the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) on a specific request from it, said a top BCCI official. This money, according to the official, is actually the “reimbursement” that the West Indies Cricket Board had sought. The official also pointed out that the BCCI was not obliged to pay anything to the WICB as worldwide tours for many years have been taking place on reciprocal basis, meaning that no guarantee money is paid to the Board sending its team to the host country.

The home series against the West Indies, comprising two Tests and three One-day Internationals, was not originally scheduled for the 2013-14 home season, nor was it mentioned on the ICC Future Tours Programme, to which BCCI is not a signatory, anyway, the only series scheduled at home was against Australia, which played seven ODIs and a solitary Twenty20 International. But after India’s tour to South Africa was shortened due to a dispute between the two Boards, the BCCI invited the West Indies for the series during which Tendulkar completed 200 Tests.

The official disclosed that it was only during a recent working committee meeting that members came to know that the WICB had requested the BCCI for a reimbursement of $250,000 towards the travel costs of the squad to India and the money spent on obtaining visas etc.,

This payment was unusual as Boards hosting a team these days take care of all the boarding and lodging expenditure, but no money is paid to the Board of the touring team.

The system of the home Board paying its counterpart for sending its team was discontinued more than 10 years ago, according to former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya.
